Question 1.

Feeding Time

Zookeeper George was in charge of feeding all of the animals in the morning. He had a regular schedule that he followed every day. Can you figure it out from the clues?

The giraffes were fed before the zebras but after the monkeys.

1. The bears were fed 15 minutes after the monkeys.
2. The lions were fed after the zebras.

Question 2.

Four good friends have four different favourite sports.  Read all the clues to find out who prefers which sport.

Question 1.

The dog named Jam is heavier than the dog named Jelly.

Copper weighs more than Brandy but less than Pumpkin.
Brandy weighs more than Jelly.
Pumpkin weighs less than Jam.

List the dogs in the order of their weights, starting with the heaviest.

Question 2.

Move from letter to touching letter , including diagonals, to find the name of a popular fictional character. Use each letter only once. You will have four letters left over.

Thinking Cap – Two

Question 1.

You must cut a birthday cake into exactly eight pieces, but you’re only allowed to make three straight cuts, and you can’t move pieces of the cake as you cut. How can you do it?

Can you place six X’s on a Tic Tac Toe board without making three-in-a-row in any direction?

Question 3.

 

Two students are sitting on opposite sides of the same desk. There is nothing in between them but the desk. Why can’t they see each other?

Thinking Cap – One

Each week this term we will be posting ’Thinking Cap’, lateral thinking questions for family and friends to work together to solve. Please post your answers in a comment. Prizes will be given each week for most creative and correct answers. Please use your own initiative and do not copy anyone elses answers.

Question 1.

Let’s take a break from puzzles and go on a boat ride across the river. There are four adults who want to cross it. They come upon a boy and a girl playing in a rowboat. The boat can hold either two children or one adult. Can the adults succeed in crossing the river? If so, how?

Question 2.

In spite of their name, killer whales don’t hunt and kill people. In fact, these dolphin-like animals prefer to eat smaller marine animals, such as seals and penguins. Now here is the problem. Acting alone. it takes two killer whales 2 minutes to catch two seals. Based upon this rate, how long will it take a pod of ten killer whales to catch ten seals?

Melb Zoo / Healesville Sanctuary Excursion Evaluation: S,W,SW (8 June, 2011)

As all classes have now been on an excursion to either the Melbourne Zoo or Healesville Sanctuary it is time to evaluate the excursion.  We ask that students with the support of someone at home to complete an S,W,SW.  Students need to identify 6 strengths (things they liked or things that went well), 3 weaknesses (things they didn’t like or things that didn’t go so well) and then 3 ‘so what idea’s’ (can be what could be changed to turn the weaknesses to strengths or other ideas to improve excursion).
